Who Does Caleb Look Like?

So Jason and I have been trying to figure out who Caleb looks like, and the recent consensus of our friends is that Caleb mostly looks like Jason. When he was first born, the nurses said they thought he looked more like me (Val), and to date, Jason and I both really don't think he looks like either of us yet. So in the spirit of this investigation, we thought we would share a few comparisons we have come up with!

This is a picture of Jason's dad when he was a baby...we can totally see Caleb's cute little cheeks in this picture of Don! He definitely has the Drapeau blood!

A bunch of people after seeing Caleb for the first time exclaimed, "He looks like Val's brother!" So the above two shots are Caleb in some of Uncle Matt's baby clothes...you be the judge!
(And check out those awesome tennis bum shoes...Matt was stylish even as a baby!)

Jason and I sometimes think Caleb looks like Fievel from the movie "An American Tale."
He totally looks like Fievel in this picture right?

So I guess we'll have to see as Caleb grows whose features he develops, Mom or Dad's. So in closing, we leave you with this last parting shot of Caleb in another t-shirt of Uncle Matt's (we couldn't resist!) How hillarious is that? I only wish I were born first so I could remember him sporting that thing in public :) Haha!

A Couple of Firsts

Ok, so it will be a long time before Caleb takes his first steps, or tries solid food for the first time, but for now, here are some shots of the "firsts" that he's experienced so far!

Caleb's first sponge bath...you can see how much he likes it :)

Happy it's over.

Caleb's first de-clawing.

Caleb's first serious spit-up. Daddy's first reality check.

Caleb's first time in his papasan swing.

Caleb's first time in the adult papasan...man is he little in that thing!

We couldn't resist...Caleb's first picture with the Nittany Lion. We are...Penn State!

Caleb's first encounter with jazz, a.k.a. "the essence of expression." (That's for you Todd Linton)

And last but not least, Caleb's first time being read the Bible.

Some of Caleb's Visitors

Here's a look at some of Caleb's visitors over the last week at the hospital and back at our house. We look forward to having many more visitors, especially the visit from Grandma Lora, Uncle Andrew, and Nana Gow to come!

And our friends Ben, Esther and Mya came to visit and bring us dinner one night too, but we forgot to break out the camera. So there is no picture of the Nyce's, but we were thrilled to have them visit!

Welcome To Our World

We have been waiting patiently for 41 weeks...you have been waiting patiently ever since the inception of this blog...we win, because we waited longer! Ha!

For God's glory and everyone's enjoyment...here he is!
Caleb Thomas was welcomed into our lives on Friday, January 4th, at 8:14pm. He was 8 lbs 9 oz, and was 21 1/4 inches long. (Yep...Daddy's little linebacker!)

Here is how the whole day went down:

-We arrived at the hospital at 7am for a planned induction, and Val began being induced starting at 11am.
-Valerie began experiencing severe back labor pains around 2pm, and was given an epidural soon thereafter. The quote of the day came when Val exclaimed to the nurse and anesthesiologist, "Next to my husband, you two are my most favorite people in the world!"

-After some more waiting for Caleb to descend, Valerie was given the okay to begin pushing at 7:30pm.

-There was a bit of a scare when, during the birth of the head, it was discovered that the umbilical cord was wrapped tightly around Caleb's neck. However, God is good, and the hospital staff was quick to the task to help return Caleb's pale skin and first breaths to a strong healthy tone and newborn baby's cry. Now that Caleb is here, we thought you would like more pictures and less talk...so enjoy!

What a cute face!

Hard to see here, but Caleb has Daddy's sideburns. Yeah!

Coming home.

Snug as a bug in a rug.

Mommy's so proud!

Goodnight, world!

Stubborn like his Daddy

Well, for anyone who is keeping tabs on what's going on with Caleb's arrival, we have news after our appointment that we had this afternoon. Being that we are now 5 days past due, we are going to be induced on Friday morning the 4th (unless he comes tonight or tomorrow that is!) so Caleb should arrive by this weekend! So it looks like we're going to force him out...he's already showing stubborn tendencies like his Dad :) Ha ha!

Really, I have been telling people that I must be a good Mom already since Caleb just wants to stay in there!

So we will be sure to keep everyone in the loop regarding his arrival. We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays too!
